Son of James and Sarah Jane Duffield, Victoria, British Columbia. He was the brother of James Duffield who served with the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles (British Columbia Regiment). He had died on May 22, 1917.

Subsequently, his body was exhumed and buried in LA CHAUDIERE MILITARY CEMETERY.
