Lest We Forget
My other daughter has two kids. The youngest is in high school,
he’s 13, and he said he doesn’t know what war is. That’s too
bad, because these kids, it’s a part of history they should know
about. Yes, but I think there’s been an improvement because
during the Year of the Veteran, I know that veterans went to
speak in the schools.
I’m Leaving My Memory Album for My Children
I prepared it for my kids. They reproached me for not
having an album, for not leaving them anything. My kids asked me
questions. My husband and I didn’t talk about it, I don’t think
we talked about it in front of the kids for 20 years. We never
talked about it. The kids, they’re adults now, and they want to
know what happened, they want to talk about it. When I told them
I was going to be interviewed, I told my oldest daughter I
didn’t want to go back over all of that, she said, “Oh, Mum,
come on, do it…” So, that’s what made me decide to do it. I
think that they want to know what happened and what I
experienced.

My grandchildren,I hope you learn what the war was like,
that someone tells you what the Canadians did in 1939-45 so you
might have a better life today and more freedom . . .
