Charles Arthur Williamson

River Bourgeois, Nova Scotia

A Veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, Mr. Charles Arthur Williamson is a very active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 47 and is seen as a driving force behind the Branch’s continued success.

In the almost 30 years since Mr. Williamson joined the Legion Branch 47, he has held the office of 1st Vice-President and Chaired various committees including the Poppy Campaign, the Membership Committee, the Honours and Award Committee and the Bylaw Committee. He was one of the initiators of a three-year renovation project to the branch 47 Legion building, realizing a savings of approximately $275,000 upon completion.

Mr. Williamson has also held the post of Sergeant-at-Arms for the past 8 years. In this role he is responsible for organizing the Legion Tributes when a Veteran passes away. His professionalism in delivering this important tribute brings honour to both the Veteran and to the Legion branch.

At Christmas time Mr. Williamson, along with the Branch President and Service Officer, spearheads the delivery of gift and goods baskets to all the Veterans living in their homes or in assisted-living facilities. Mr. Williamson also maintains three cemeteries in the area, ensuring that all Veterans’ grave sites are marked and well-maintained. He also sees to the task of mowing the grass around these sites, making sure that the area is meticulously maintained.

Mr. Williamson is often found volunteering his time and assistance to Veterans who need transportation to medical appointments and ensuring they have all of the support required to live in their homes for as long as possible. He also monitors Veterans’ widows, assessing their needs and acquiring any assistance that is needed.
