Group Photo – A RPPC of four officers from the 48th Highlanders of Canada found inside an album purchased at an estate sale in Nova Scotia by Andrew Webb-Trezzi in 2020 (it remains in his collection). Standing left to right are Alan Turnbull, Ewen McGregor Haldane (KIA), Richard Austin Brown (KIA), and Wilfred Mavor. Four extremely brave men, the very best Canada had to offer.

Of the six Officers in the photograph, three would be killed in action: Lt EM Haldane (standing left) at Hill 70 in August 1917; Lt BM Loudon (standing centre) at The Crow's Nest in Sept 1918 and Lt Geoffrey Snow at Regina Trench in September 1916. Group Photo – Then 27902 Private EM Haldane, G Company, 15th Battalion CEF (48th Highlanders of Canada).Extracted from a panoramic photograph of the 15th Battalion on parade prior to embarkation from Canada to the UK in 1914 as part of the 1st Contingent of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Private Haldane was identified by his name painted on his kit bag lying next to him. He fought at 2nd Ypres and Festubert in 1915 as well as Mt Sorrel in June 1916 where as a Sergeant he was acting CSM of No.3 Company. He was Commissioned from the ranks in August 1916. In August 1917 he was the Assistant Adjutant at Hill 70 where he went forward to take command of No. 3 Company during the assault on Bois Hugo. He was killed in action leading No.3 Company as it repelled several heavy German counter attacks against their positions in Bois Hugo. War Memorial – "The Hill 70 memorial, erected by the 15th Battalion Memorial Project and the town of Benifontaine, was unveiled and dedicated on 22 September 2012. The memorial commemorates the actions of the 15th Battalion CEF, which was on the extreme left flank of the Canadian assault on Hill 70, on 15 August 1917 and the memory of those members of the Battalion who fell during the engagement. The memorial sits on what was then known as Bois Hugo, which the Battalion assaulted, captured and held against repeated German counterattacks."
