Baptized Joseph-Dominique-Gaston Brière. Son of Édouard Brière and Catherine Beausoleil (deceased in 1890). His father remarried twice: to Élisa Gariépy in 1891 and to Antoinette Chatel in 1901, and he always lived in Terrebonne.
Gaston enlisted twice. He first joined an Anglophone unit in Ontario on 10 March 1916 (service number 788891) and six months later, he decided to join a Francophone unit in Québec, deserting from his unit to re-enlist.
He stated being born on 11 February 1889 the first time he enlisted, and on 11 February 1886 the second time he enlisted.

Take the D38 from Cherisy to Hendecourt. Approximately 2 kilometres from Cherisy turn left just before Sun Quarry Cemetery onto a dirt track. Continue for 1 kilometre before turning left to arrive at Quebec Cemetery.
