Baptized Henry Guitard. Son of François Guitard (deceased in 1912) and Rose-Anne Lejeune, of Pointe-Verte, Gloucester, New Brunswick. He stated being born in 1891 when he enlisted.
Henry was severely wounded to the face during the assault on Hill 70 in Lens, and a piece of shrapnel had lodged at the base of the brain, causing a neurological defect in vision. He was repatriated in January 1918 and released during the summer as medically unfit. In July 1919, he was at Royal Victoria hospital in Montréal for treatments but died of meningitis. His death was declared to be attributable to his military service.
