Location:

Lapugnoy is a village and commune in Pas-de-Calais, 6 kilometres west of Bethune. From the centre of Lapugnoy, head south-west on the D70 in the direction of Marles-les-Mines. On the outskirts of the centre there is a crucifix at the side of the main road, turn right here towards Allouagne. After approximately 500 metres there is a track on the left hand side (the Cemetery is signposted here) and the LAPUGNOY MILITARY CEMETERY can be found on the left hand side, approximately 500 metres, along this track.

  • Newspaper Clipping– Oldest son of David and Ann Sinclair, of Breck, Stenness, Orkney, Scotland.  Gave his date of birth as 2nd January 1879 when attested in Calgary on 8th February 1916, but official birth record in Holm, Orkney date of 2nd January 1878.  Travelled out to Canada with younger brothers David and Robert on steamship Tunisian of the Allan Line in 1904, leaving Liverpool on 14th April bound for Halifax.  James had served a year in 15th Alberta Light Horse before he joined up.  Robert returned to Orkney and set up successful business there called Sinclair Supply Stores (in the two main towns, Kirkwall and Stromness).
