Son of William Joseph and Elizabeth (Sidall) MacDonald of Antigonish Co. Nova Scotia. Brother of Francis, Roy, Lewis, Dougald, Louise, Mary, Helen and Alma. Pte MacDonald is commemorated on the Nova Scotia Korea War Memorial with his fellow Nova Scotians who lost their lives in the Korean War. The Memorial is located at Pleasant and Parade Streets in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. It was unveiled and dedicated in a ceremony on 16 August 2003.

The United Nations Cemetery is located in Tanggok, a suburb of Busan. The land for the cemetery was granted to the United Nations by the Republic of Korea as a tribute to all those who had laid down their lives in combatting aggression and in upholding peace and freedom. There are 2,267 servicemen buried in the United Nations Memorial Cemetery. Of these 1,538 were Commonwealth soldiers, including 376 Canadians.
