Cst. Laird was with the Saskatchewan Light Infantry in WWII. For his war service he was awarded the 1939-1945 Star, the France and Germany Star, the Italy Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and clasp, and the 1939-1945 War Medal. After the war he engaged with the RCMP. He served in Hamilton, ON, and several posts in Alberta. He died while on duty in a non-collision traffic accident on the Ranchville Road, near Medicine Hat, Alberta. Cst. Laird had a wife Ann and a son. He is buried in the Cemetery at Depot.
