Veterans' Stained Glass Windows
Carleton Memorial United Church

What a privilege to observe
These stained glass windows,
To admire soft glowing colours
Shed by sunshine to warm the shoulders
Of those at service up ahead.

The innovation of loving creation,
The craftsmen by our women booked
Short notice of time to craft,
Designs of honours for out times.

There was a time of six months
For the Second World War to last.
But time had come and gone
With six years of shadow cast,
Through thick and thin, a time of service spent.

The courage of the past three score years,
These windows speak of many things,
Pride of people for their country,
Thankfulness for deeds of valour,
Homefires burning, shielding hearts of yearning.

At home and abroad, around the world,
Good service was a concern of everyone,
Looking forward to a time of joy,
Life renewed with family and friends,
To never again set life askew.

Those beautiful stained glass windows
Tell of challenges met and followed through
Tell of love, sadness and gentle compassions,
Of a loving peace and the everlasting peace of God.
In truth of life, as it was meant to be.
