Mr. Blake Seward teaches history at Smiths Falls District Collegiate Institute, in Smiths Falls, Ontario. Through his work, his infectious enthusiasm, his curiosity and passion, Mr. Seward created the Lest We Forget project. This project inspired his Grade 10 students to research the lives of Canadian soldiers who died while serving in the First World War. This led to the production of a 1,500-page document detailing the lives of deceased First World War Veterans from the Smiths Falls area. Many other schools in Ontario and across the country were equally inspired and have since adopted this worthy project. Mr. Seward's commitment to teaching Canadian history has been recognized by a number of awards, including the 2003 Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence. Mr. Seward continues to spend much of his free time keeping alive the memory and contribution of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
