Mr. Andrews has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 47 years and has held various positions on the executive, including vice-president, president and past-president. Mr. Andrews has served on many Legion committees and he is very active in the collection of funds and the distribution of poppies for the Poppy Fund. He faithfully attends the commemorative ceremonies held at the National War Memorial in St. John’s for the Battle of Beaumont-Hamel and Remembrance Day, and he has helped in the past to organize and participate in similar services in Bay Roberts and Clarke’s Beach. For 45 years, Mr. Andrews has been the Chairperson of the Sponsoring Committee for the Cadet Corps of the combined Bay Roberts and Spaniard’s Bay Legion branches. He is the past Chair of the Board of Directors for Charwood Legion Manor, a retirement facility run by the Legion. In 2011, the manor opened 10 new units for Veterans and the public. Mr. Andrews’ dedication to supporting Veterans can also be seen when he delivers turkeys at Christmas to Veterans, provides fruit baskets to those in the hospital, and visits Veterans in nursing homes. In 2011, he participated in the re-dedication of the cenotaph in Bay Roberts.
