Duane Daly

Mr. Daly joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1963 and, over the course of the outstanding career, his service included Commanding Officer of 415 Squadron, Commander of Canadian Forces Base Summerside, Area Commander of the Canadian Forces Northern Area, and senior appointments at National Defence Headquarters. He retired in 1995 with the rank of Brigadier-General and joined The Royal Canadian Legion as its Dominion Secretary. Mr. Daly has played an instrumental role in the success of many major commemorative projects including the Two-Minute Wave of Silence, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and more recently, the Valiants Memorial. He also was effective in advancing the proposal to have 2005 declared the Year of the Veteran and he was subsequently involved with the many commemorative events held that year. Mr. Daly serves on the Advisory Committee of the Canadian War Museum, is a Director of the RCAF Benevolent Fund and Director of the Canadian Battlefields Foundation. He is a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal and he is an Officer of The Venerable Order of St. John.
