Lisa Peterson

Fox Creek, Alberta

Ms. Lisa Peterson has been a highly active member of The Royal Canadian Legion for fifteen years. During her membership, she has held many executive positions, including secretary, sergeant-at-arms, poppy chairman, membership chairman, president, past president, vice president and service officer. Ms. Peterson has also been the primary organizer of her local Remembrance Day service for over ten years, which is always well received. She implements new ideas, visits museums, battlefields, and war cemeteries, speaks with Veterans, encourages youth participation, and works with guides, scouts and school children. Ms. Peterson willingly lends her collection of artifacts out to the local museum, school and legion so that others can enjoy and learn from them. In 2007, Ms. Peterson attended the Legion’s Pilgrimage of Remembrance to expand her knowledge on the importance of Remembrance. Living in a very small community, Ms. Peterson goes above and beyond, bringing in Veterans from surrounding areas to speak with children. For Wounded Warriors Weekend 2014, Ms. Peterson actively supported the Slave Lake Branch by dedicating herself to fundraising and volunteering to help with the event. Following that weekend, Ms. Peterson began volunteering and fostering for a service dog program and helped deliver four service dogs to Veterans in need. Ms. Peterson also joined a team of four other women on “The Long Way Home”, a walk and horse ride across Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia to raise awareness for post-traumatic stress disorder.
