Major Andréa Villeneuve

Major Andréa Villeneuve is nominated for the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation for her work with Veterans of the community.

Known as the face of the Legion in Timmins, Maj Villeneuve has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for forty years and has held several positions within. Every year she has worked for the branch poppy sales and has organized and coordinated the Timmins municipal Remembrance Day ceremonies since 1992. In addition to her numerous duties she has assisted with coordinating Honors and Awards as well as Veterans diner thus ensuring proper recognition and support. Major Villeneuve's experience and knowledge has been sought out by Veterans requiring assistance through the Poppy fund and to get help applying for benefits and mobility devices.

In addition to her managerial duties at Service Canada, Maj Villeneuve volunteered to be a coordinator for the international Year of Older Persons overseeing and coordinating events honoring seniors and Veterans. She also planned for her church choir to sing for the elderly and the Veterans at long term community living facilities in Timmins. Giving a voice to the service of service members and Veterans, she has made countless presentations at local schools and cadets units in support of education and remembrance of Canada's contribution to the various wars and conflicts.
