Mr. Bannister is a Veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). He has been involved with the Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) for many years. Mr. Bannister spent 10 years volunteering for Branch 211, which included two years as Poppy Committee chairman and one year as branch president. In 2004, he was appointed Poppy Committee chairman for RCL Branch 40 in Penticton. Since 2005, he has been on the branch executive and has served two terms as president. In 2005, he also became the co-chair of the Penticton Veterans Association and he has worked on the Cenotaph Restoration Committee and been involved with the improvements to Veterans Memorial Park. Mr. Bannister has also been a member of the Air Force Association of Canada (AFAC), the Royal Canadian Air Force Association (RCAFA), and the Air Cadet League of Canada. He spent six years as an air cadet squadron representative and Central Zone director of the Alberta Provincial Committee. Other positions he has held are 700 Wing rep and chairman for two years to the Greater Edmonton Poppy Committee, president of 784 Wing, vice president North, president of the Alberta Group RCAFA and western regional director to the National Executive, RCAFA. Currently, Mr. Bannister is the president of the AFAC’s Pacific Group and is a member of the AFAC National Executive Council.
