Tim Cook

Dr. Tim Cook is a First World War historian at the Canadian War Museum. He has developed exhibitions which have helped shape the understanding of our military past. Realizing that the term ‘Veterans’ often conjures up images of a large nameless, faceless group or a group defined by exceptional individuals, Dr. Cook has approached exhibits from the standpoint of soldiers’ experiences. By allowing Canadians to see the faces that make up the group, he has facilitated a better understanding of what it means to be a soldier. In telling the stories of our everyday Canadian service people, Dr. Cook has allowed us to better understand and remember how they have shaped our world. He has written more than 8 books and several dozen articles--all of which are legible, accessible and scholarly. This rare combination has contributed to our academic understanding of the First and Second World Wars. It has also profoundly impacted public perceptions around Veterans’ contributions to our national history. Professor Cook’s valuable contributions have made him a household name in Canada, as well as respected internationally. Dr. Cook is a member of the Order of Canada.
