Walter Conrad

Mr. Conrad is a Veteran of the Korean War and Canadian Armed Forces, and a tireless volunteer. He is the 2nd Vice-President of the Korea Veterans Association (KVA), Unit 7, in Ottawa. He liaised with the Perley Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre (PRVHC) and, until his health prevented him from doing so, regularly visited more than 20 Korean War Veterans. For 22 years, Mr. Conrad has been a volunteer at the Canadian War Museum, guiding tours three days per week. He is also a member of the Capital City Chorus. He and a subgroup of his chorus often perform at retirement and nursing homes for the benefit of Veterans and other residents. In 2013, Mr. Conrad organized a chorus of Veterans to sing at a gala at the Canadian War Museum, in recognition of the Year of the Korean War Veteran. Mr. Conrad also volunteers weekly at the Ottawa Mission Homeless Shelter, helping in the kitchen and on the serving line. He participates in Poppy services at funerals for his Korean War comrades.
