William Lee

Sudbury, Ontario

For more than 25 years William Lee has been a tireless advocate for Veterans in the Sudbury area. Mr. Lee has overcome adversity in his life. Mr. Lee was released from the Navy in 1975 and immediately became a new client with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Undeterred by his disability, Mr. Lee went on to earn two university degrees. As the President of the Manitoulin Northshore Branch of the Royal Canadian Naval Association, Mr. Lee was appointed by his comrades to chair the Veterans Committee with the City of Greater Sudbury's Memorial Park Memory Wall Project. The project is a 43-foot long Memory Wall that is inscribed with the names of more than 620 citizens who paid the supreme sacrifice for our freedom. Mr. Lee was also instrumental in fundraising for and the dedication of a Naval Memorial in Greater Sudbury. Mr. Lee became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in 1973, while he was still serving in fleet operations. Mr. Lee embodies the best of the volunteering spirit.
