With a distinguished 46-year career in the Royal Canadian Navy and a deep passion for preserving Canada’s military history, Paul Seguna has dedicated his life to honouring the sacrifices and achievements of Canadian Veterans. Since retiring in 2017, Paul has continued to serve with unwavering commitment through his involvement in multiple organizations and initiatives focused on remembrance, education and public engagement.
For the past eight years, Paul has been a key contributor to the University of Victoria – Royal United Services Oral History Project. Initially serving as the Navy Coordinator, he encouraged Royal Canadian Navy members to share their service stories with students. In 2023, he became the overall coordinator of the program, which now houses over 700 recorded interviews—an invaluable archive for future generations.
Paul is also an Executive Board member of the Naval Association of Canada, where he has served for seven years. In this role, he leads and supports commemorative events and public outreach efforts, regularly speaking at schools, senior residences and community organizations to promote awareness of Canada’s military history.
At the CFB Esquimalt Naval and Military Museum, Paul has volunteered for seven years as a docent, guiding visitors through exhibits and sharing the stories of Canada’s armed forces. He has also contributed artifacts, assisted with gallery updates, and helped enhance the museum’s educational offerings.
From 2002 to 2012, Paul served as Director of the Okanagan Military Museum Society, where he organized events, managed media relations, and elevated public awareness of the Okanagan region’s contributions to Canada’s defence. In recognition of his efforts, he was named an honorary member of the BC Dragoons Regiment.
A skilled public speaker and historian, Paul is frequently invited by media outlets to provide commentary on Canada’s military contributions, particularly during the Second World War. He is a regular speaker at Remembrance Day ceremonies and a contributor to Lookout, the CFB Esquimalt base newspaper.
Paul is also a founding member and past president of the Canadian Aerospace Artists Association. As an accomplished marine and aviation artist, his work has been exhibited in military and aviation museums across Canada and featured in historical publications.
Through his extensive volunteerism, public education and artistic contributions, Paul Seguna has made a lasting impact on the Veteran community and Canadian society. His tireless advocacy ensures that the stories of Canada’s service members are preserved, honoured and passed on to future generations. He is a true role model and a powerful voice for remembrance.
