The Infantryman was unveiled on September 24, 1992. It was commissioned by Department of National Defence and the Canadian Infantry Association to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Infantry Corps and in tribute to those proud members of the Corps whose noble service has brought such great honour to Canada. 

The heroic nine feet tall figure of a Canadian infantry soldier is depicted in full battle order involved in combat and is portrayed in the action of clearing the trench. It was created by renowned bronze sculptor Don Begg of Studio West Bronze Foundry Ltd.
