Sir George-Étienne Cartier Monument: Born in Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu in 1814, he was a member of the "Fils de la Liberté". He sided with Louis-Joseph Papineau during the insurrections of 1837-1838. He was Prime Minister of United Canada from 1857 to 1867 and became one of the Fathers of Confederation. This bust of Cartier stands a little more than four feet high. The pedestal, in Laurentian granite, is twelve feet high. The only ornamentation on the pedestal is a beautiful bronze palm inscribed with Cartier’s motto : "FRANC ET SANS DOL". The monument was unveiled on September 28, 1919. The bust was sculpted by G.-W. Hill.
