The property on which the Mildmay-Carrick War Memorials are now situated was purchased by the Bruce Preparedness League from Mrs. John F. Schuett. The President of the League was Mr. Joe Thompson of Clifford. This occurred shortly after the First World War and at that time the present centre memorial was erected. In 1951, extensive renovations were carried out on the property and the two smaller stones were then put in place commemorating the men who sacrificed their lives in the Second World War. It was at this time that the circular cement sidewalk was constructed, the drinking fountain placed, the shrubs and bushes planted and the fence laid that still encloses the property. March 24, 1919 - Carrick Council on cenotaph: "That this Council make a grant of six hundred dollars towards erecting a soldiers' memorial at Mildmay and Messro. Montag, Lewis and Schnurr act in conjunction with a committee from the Village Council and Preparedness League in the selection and construction of said memorial."
