In 1945, a War Memorial Committee was appointed to raise funds by voluntary subscription of Weston Golf and Country Club members for a memorial to honour their members that served in the Second World War. The committee wanted the memorial to be both beautiful and practical, so suggested an improved main entrance to the club property with stone pillars and bronze plaques.
Two stone pillars, approximately 30" square at the base, and 9' tall including lamps, were made by local stonemason Jim Gove using fieldstone harvested from the river valley by "Old Charlie Gillis", a local teamster. The Weston Golf and Country Club Memorial Pillars were built in 1946 to hold plaques commemorating club members who served during the Second World War.
