Kingsmill-Mapleton Women's Institute donated a wheelchair to Memorial Hospital on Pearl Street honouring the memory of five young men who gave their lives in the Second World War. It was presented in a special ceremony held February 14 , 1951, with more than 50 women gathered. Taking part in the ceremony were Rev. William Fermer, Mrs. John Donald, president of the group and Mrs. Kenneth McNeil, who gave the presentation address. 

A bronze plate was inscribed with Kingsmill and Mapleton Women's Institute and names of the five heroes - Donald Finch, and J. Barry Cleaver, members of the Royal Canadian Air Force; Glen Durdle, Archie T. Fisher and Leon Williams, members of the Canadian Army.

Memorial Hospital closed in 1990 and was leveled in 1998. It is not known what happened to the wheelchair and plaque.
