A Committee formed by caring residents of Thamesville and Area, worked hard to have this Cenotaph, which was carved from a single piece of gray granite by the Thompson Memorial Company of Toronto. It was erected in time for the Remembrance Day Services of 1936. It sits on a two-foot slab of granite and rises to a height of twelve feet. It was placed near the main intersection of the Village, on the grounds of the Thamesville "Town Hall". After the Second World War, an "S" was added to WAR and at the bottom, was added "1939 - 1945". "KOREA 1950 - 1953" was added to the back of the memorial below the carved sword. The "Cenotaph Committee" took care of the Monument until it was turned over to the newly formed Royal Canadian Legion Branch 367 that was established in 1946, which has taken care of it since.
