This memorial plaque is dedicated to the Battle of the Atlantic and the Canadian ships who were awarded the Battle Honour “Atlantic”.

This plaque is one of 39 plaques unveiled in 2009 at Hylands Golf Club. The plaques commemorate former Ottawa-area military installations, a military patron saint, battle honours, ships, units, and squadrons.

Atlantic – Atlantique

This battle honour was awarded to HMC Ships that participated in the longest and the most far reaching single battle of the Second World War – the Battle of the Atlantic. During the 2075 days of the battle, Canadian warships escorted over 188 million tons of supplies to Britain – thus ensuring the survival of Great Britain, the success of the Normandy invasion and the liberation of Europe.

Cet honneur de guerre a été remis aux NCSM qui ont participé à la plus longue et la plus retentissante bataille de la Seconde Guerre mondiale – la bataille de l’Atlantique. Pendant les 2075 jours qu’a duré la bataille, les navires de guerre canadiens ont escorté plus de 188 millions de tonnes de fournitures vers la Grande-Bretagne, assurant ainsi sa survie, le réussite de l’invasion de la Normandie et la libération de l’Europe.
