The Sons of England Benefit Society Ingersoll Branch No. 176 purchased a plot in the Ingersoll Rural Cemetery, with the intentions of erecting a suitable memorial, in memory of the thirteen members that paid the supreme sacrifice in the Great War. The monument was designed and built by Alex Kirk, while Fred Eaton was awarded the contract for the lettering of the tablet and cross. It was official unveiled on August 21, 1927, with a decoration service.
