Description: A Bronze statue constructed using the 'lost wax' method by the Large Art Company from Baltimore, United States. Statue sits atop a granite base constructed by Thames memorials in the City of Woodstock, with a polished black granite plaque with inscription and picture.
History: Three founders (Kevin DeClark, Stephen Smith, Jeremy Mac Knott) of an event named Evening of Honour, which took place on the evening of the National Day of Honour, used the proceeds from the event to purchase the memorial statue.
The event was held to honour local Afghanistan War Veterans and provide them a night to network with each other for future support. The night was a complete success with the only local casualty's family being in attendance to accept a custom hand crafted (By Artisan Brian Walsh) memorial box made to honour their son and brother Private Tyler Todd - April 11, 2010.
The statue was picked up by Co founders and brought across the border to be delivered to the City of Woodstock. The founders presented thier vision for an Afghanistan War memorial and the placement wishes at the City Cenotaph. The city council voted unanimously in favor of accepting and placing the statue at the Cenotaph. Council also allotted approx. $12,000 for the project and purchased the granite base for the statue to sit atop. Local businesses donated time and materials pro bono for the project (viewcon construction-excavating and CBM cement).
The unveiling occurred April 11, 2015(Pte. Todd's 5th year commemoration) with over 250 people in attendance including Pte. Tyler Todd's family and various media outlets.
Since the unveiling the City has constructed new curbs, walkways and benches.
