The Bracebridge Memorial Community Centre was dedicated to the fallen of the Second World War on February 1, 1949.

Bracebridge Council held a special meeting on March 5, 1946 and decided to build a recreation centre as a war memorial. Community donations poured in from individual donors and fundraising events were held. Mayor Bastedo was a Veteran and contributed a large personal donation.
