On Saturday August 9, 1997, the citizens of Westmeath Township gathered to remember 39 service men killed in action during the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War.
Two brothers on the cenotaph, Carson and Warrington Foy, were the sons of John and Mabel Foy. They died just weeks apart in the Second World War by friendly fire incidents. A Memorial Cross was sent to the family for each son, but were lost over time. In the fall of 2010, the medals were recovered from eBay and prepared for final display in the Westmeath Hall.
