The first operational Bailey Bridge was built by 237th Field Company, Royal Engineers, over the Medjerda River near Majaz Al Bab in Tunisia on the night of 26 November 1942. The very first instance of a Bailey Bridge being erected under fire was at Leonforte by members of the 3rd Field Company, Royal Canadian Engineers.

Le premier pont Bailey fonctionnel a été construit par la 237th Field Company, Royal Engineers. Il a été érigé sur le fleuve Medjerda, près de Medjez el-Bab (Tunisie), le soir du 26 novembre 1942. La toute première construction d'un pont Bailey sous le feu ennemi a eu lieu à Leonforte. Son installation est l'oeuvre de la 3ième Compagnie de campagne du Corps royal du génie canadien.
