In 1945, the Beaches Businessmen's Association offered to donate a memorial fountain in remembrance of the citizens of Toronto who gave their lives in the two world wars, which was erected in 1946 at the entrance to Kew Gardens.

Originally, it was inscribed with only the dates of the First and Second World Wars. Later the dates of the Korean War were added. The dates for Canada’s mission in Afghanistan and the South African War were inscribed on October 27, 2020, by Sanderson Monuments. Residents Paul Szabunio, a Canadian army Veteran and Peter MacKay, former Minister of Defence, approached Beach historian Gene Domagala and Beaches-East York Councilor Brad Bradford to have these dates added.
