A bronze plaque in honour of parishioners who gave their lives in the first World War was unveiled in the sanctuary of Walmer Road Baptist Church on April 11, 1920. It was unveiled by Major J.B. Grinshaw who was the first member of the congregation to enlist and the first Baptist Chaplain to serve with the Canadian Forces. One hundred and seventy-eight members of the congregation enlisted for active service.

FROM THIS CONGREGATION
TO SERVE IN THE GREAT WAR,
AND IN GRATEFULE MEMORY OF THOSE AMONG THEM
WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES.
