A bronze tablet in honour of St. Giles Presbyterian Church parishioners who gave their lives in the First World War was unveiled on December 7, 1919, by Tom McDougall who returned from the war wounded. The church at 32-34 Oak Street was demolished and it is not known what happened to the tablet.

Inscription

“To the glory of God and the memory of the unreturning brace who sleep at the gates of liberty.” 

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
