This memorial was erected by the village of Margaret and area in honour of the local war dead of the First World War. It was originally unveiled in June 1921. The statue was created by E.J. Skelton from Walkerton, Ontario. The soldier's gaze is nearly straight ahead, arms relaxed and hands resting on the barrel end of the rifle.

Names of the local war dead from the Second World War were added later. The cenotaph was cleaned and restored in 1974.

IN FLANDERS FIELDS THE POPPIES BLOW
BETWEEN THE CROSSES, ROW ON ROW,
THAT MARK OUR PLACE; AND IN THE SKY
THE LARKS, STILL BRAVELY SINGING, FLY
SCARCE HEARD AMID THE FUNS BELOW.
WE ARE THE DEAD. SHORT DAYS AGO
WE LIVED, FELT DAWN, SAW SUNSET GLOW,
LOVED AND WERE LOVED, AND NOW WE LIE,
           IN FLANDERS FIELDS.
