This monument, designed by a local architect named Herbert Payton, was constructed by the town of Dauphin beginning in the summer of 1923. The sculpture, entitled "Miss Canada in Mourning" was sculpted by Signor Rumbollo from Italy. Originally erected in front of the local Canadian National Railway station, the monument was moved to Memorial Boulevard in 1964. It is dedicated to the local war dead from the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. The Dauphin Cenotaph was unveiled on June 19, 1924, in memory of "Our citizen soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during the Great War". Sir James Aikens, Lieutenant Governor of Manitoba and John Bracken, Premier of Manitoba attended the unveiling of this beautiful Memorial column, topped by a nine foot figure of Miss Canada. The Memorial was paid for by public inscription and was contracted to Guinn and Simpson of Portage La Prairie at a cost of five thousand and five hundred dollars. There are 82 names of men from Dauphin and District who fell in the First World War and 80 names of men who fell in the Second World War.
