In 1963, Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 155 made plans to build a cenotaph with financial help of the Ladies Auxiliary. First World War Veteran P.D. McMunn donated the red flint granite from a quarry in McMunn, Manitoba that was started by his father. The cenotaph was completed in early October of 1964 by stone mason Edward Polsarrd of Winnipeg and features carefully cut and placed stones that are inset with white mortar.
It was dedicated on November 11, 1964, by Winnipeg Legion chaplain Ven. Archdeacon George E. Phillips, to honour the local war dead of the First and Second World Wars. The cenotaph was unveiled by Reverend W.G. Martin. The stone work was repointed in 2021.
