Mike Port was commissioned to paint the '2005: Year of the Veteran' by the Royal Canadian Legion in Selkirk. The mural contains three elements: the Army Navy and Air Force. Since it represents Canada it features the Canadian Corvette. The airplanes featured are the Hurricane, Lancaster and Spitfire. In the centre there is a black-white photo. The ship, the men and the planes are all facing one way or one direction- to illustrate the commitment of the Canadians, and their unified purpose. The military service members are framed by putting a circle around them to add emphasis and focus. The personnel and their sacrifice is shown as more important than the machines of war that they used.
