The memorial was unveiled on 26 September 1948, at 2 p.m. in the afternoon. The unveiling ceremony was as follows: The opening was the singing of the National Anthem. Comrade A.L. Dennis, Chairman introduced the Guest Speaker, Mr. E. McCullogh, MP. Reverend Father Wm. Cross said the dedication prayer, and Comrade C.A. Rolfe read the names of the departed servicemen. There was also a ceremonial guard of honour, and Wm. Kenney was in charge. The Last Post was played, and there was two minutes of silence. Following the time of silence was the laying of wreaths.
