Named for the legendary association of fountains have with perpetual youth, the Memorial Fountain of Youth is dedicated to those killed in the Second World War (1939-1945). Over one million Canadian men and women enlisted in the Armed Forces during this conflict; of this number, 42,000 died in service. The Kiwanis Memorial Fountain, officially dedicated on June 17, 1947, was built to the "everlasting honour and glory of those who fared forth to war and died that Freedom's cause might triumph."
