The Memorial Tower is graced with murals created by Ken Lochhead, Director of Art at Regina College from 1950 to 1964. Tracing Saskatchewan’s military history, the murals are divided into eight wall sections and were officially presented in a special service by his Honour the Lieutenant-Governor W.J. Patterson in 1954.

This section represents both sides in the Northwest Resistance and the opening of Saskatchewan and the west. Depicted are the North-West Mounted Police, Métis and their Indigenous allies, and the Countess of Dufferin steam engine, the first locomotive in western Canada, in the background.
