This street is one of four named after Colonel Joseph Norman Spencer who lived on the large estate subsequently opened up for development by these roads. Colonel Victor Spencer fought in the First World War and was the fifth son of the department store founder David Spencer. See also memorials 59034-033, 59034-035 and 59034-036.
