Bud Jones was born in Montreal, Quebec. He was a good boxer and very athletic, becoming a PT instructor before his deployment to Europe in the Second World War. He was assigned to the Royal Canadian Regiment, whose responsibility it was to eliminate German V2 rocket launching sites along the European side of the English Channel. He would see service in France, Belgium and Holland. Following his war service, Mr. Jones enlisted in the regular forces, becoming a career soldier. During that time, he served in Germany and Japan in addition to his service in Canada.

The other thing is when your friends get killed. Those things you remember quite, for a long time, because you sort of would depend on these friends all the time. You know, you sleep in the same place with them, you go downtown and google the girls with them, and they tell you their best secrets and you tell them your best secrets. All of a sudden, you realize that they’re not there and there’s nothing that you can do about it. In my case, this sort of put a, I sort of put a veil in front of myself when my best buddy was killed, and I never seemed to make friends closely again.
