Description
Dr. Cunningham discusses hearing that the war had ended as a result of the H-bombings in Japan, and describes his elation at the time.
Transcript
Well we knew about the atomic bomb being dropped and they didn't know that it was an atomic bomb but they knew it was something out of the ordinary because they were just screaming about the devastation caused by it. So we knew it was something out of the ordinary and then an American plane flew over and dropped leaflets telling us that the war was over, that the emperor had surrendered but just to stay where we were, that we were still the responsibility of the Japanese but this is how we knew that the war was over.
