Days nineteen to twenty-seven Mr. Yves Delrue (Deputy Mayor of Arras): One hundred years ago – following earlier successes at Amiens – the allies continued their military campaign in the region of Arras. On August 26th, the 100,000 strong Canadian Corps attacked across a sector bordered by the Scarpe River and the road to Cambrai. On September 2nd, the Canadians advanced again breaking the enemy’s defenses and reaching the town of Dury to the east. For Arras and the many towns and villages of this region, the Great War was over. This important anniversary provides an opportunity to remember those who fought for our freedom and recommit ourselves to preserving the peace that came at so high a price.Thank you Canada.
