Make a peace tree

Make a peace tree

Age group: 5 - 18

Lesson duration: 30 Minutes

It’s easy to make a peace tree with your class or group!

You can use a wall, a bulletin board or even a holiday tree to recognize Veterans in your community or remember fallen Canadians.

Create

Use your imagination to make a personalized peace tree in your classroom, in the hallway, in the library or in the community room.

Looking for decorating inspiration?  Here are some ideas to get you started:

Hang these symbols of peace and remembrance on your tree as a symbol of recognition and remembrance.

For deeper learning

Help youth put a face on remembrance by pairing creation of your peace tree with a research activity.  Honour fallen service members by completing one of our remembrance dog tag activities or choose a name from the Canadian Virtual War Memorial. Students could also interview Veterans in your community, welcome a Veteran speaker, or research names on your local cenotaph.

Remember and recognize

Show Veterans and military family members from your community that you care by inviting them to see your peace tree. Add their names or the names of those they love to the tree.

Share photographs of your peace tree during Veterans' Week, or anytime during the year, on social media using #CanadaRemembers.
