Under the auspices of the newly established BC Veterans Remembrance Association, representatives of the Canadian Forces; Navy, Army, and Air Force, civilian police and RCMP, and veterans will gather to commemorate the service of more than 125,000 Canadians who have served on United Nations missions.
More than 125,000 Canadian Armed Forces members have served in international peacekeeping efforts in dozens of countries since 1948. Approximately 130 of them have lost their lives. Hundreds of others continue to suffer today as a result of their service. Over 4,000 officers from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and municipal police forces from across Canada have also taken part in UN missions. Additionally, thousands of diplomats and civilians have made important contributions. Those that have them are encouraged to wear their blue or orange beret indicative of their service.- Location
