At Glebe Collegiate Institute (GCI), students have created the poignant project "Walking Them Home," an initiative dedicated to honouring the former students and staff who bravely enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War and subsequently lost their lives in service.
In a profound spirit of Remembrance, the students have created a memorial walk through the Glebe neighbourhood of Ottawa. This walk identifies the homes of these former students and staff, featuring memorial signs that provide information about their lives and service.
The community is encouraged to participate by simply walking the streets of the Glebe from November 3rd to the 14th, 2025. As you walk, we invite you to pause at select homes, scan the QR code on the sign, and learn more about the life of the individual who once lived there. This project is proudly bilingual, with half of the biographies translated into French.
The aim is simple but powerful: to encourage the community to join the students in symbolically walking the memory of their soldier back home—ultimately, Walking Them Home.- Location
