On this page is written the following :

Upon these pages are recorded the names of those of the merchant navy lost in the Second World War. Canadians, Newfoundlanders and the men and women of other nations who sailed our ships, they had long forsaken safety to make the world and its oceans their home. Yet these, who had been accustomed to living as the freest of people, had, for Freedom's sake, risked even more, and so bound themselves to the cause of Canada and her Allies and bequeathed their liberty to the generations that followed them.
